Congratulations everyone for the AMAZING fundraising work that you've been doing. We're so grateful. The money you've raised will go a long way towards helping women and girls lift themselves out of poverty.

Please note your fundraising pages will be open to collect donations until April, so you can still collect donations after you've finished the walk.

How to put the FUN in fundraising!

We’ve put these guidelines together so you can get the most out of your fundraising and make an even bigger impact for women and girls living in poverty.

1. Email
    Including some suggested email text

2. Social media
    Tell your Facebook friends and Twitter followers about Walk In Her Shoes!

3. Your local community
    Download our posters and stick them up everywhere, or even contact your local media

4. Other useful information
    Collecting cash donations, and issuing tax receipts.

1. Email

Bombard the inboxes of your friends, family and colleagues by sending them an email to let them know that you are participating in Walk In Her Shoes. When you’re considering who to write to – think FRANK: your Friends, Relatives, Acquaintances, Neighbours and Kids.

Here's some suggested text:

Every day, millions of women and girls in developing countries spend hours walking to collect food, water and firewood for their families.

Help break this cycle of poverty by sponsoring me for CARE's Walk In Her Shoes challenge. I'm walking 10,000 steps a day for a week, from 12-18 March.

I’m raising money for CARE’s projects which can help reduce the distance women and girls have to walk, and help them spend more time in school or earning an income.

I have a target of raising <insert your target after reading the targets page>

Please sponsor me on my online fundraising page <insert link to your page>

Together, we have the power to change the lives of these women and girls forever.

Spread the word by including an email banner on your personal or work email. Simply copy and paste the following sentence to your email signature, with a link to your fundraising page.

Check out CARE Australia’s Facebook page and give us the thumbs up. Following CARE Australia will keep you updated about Walk In Her Shoes and stories about the women and communities you are helping.

Let all of your Facebook friends know that you are helping women and girls to lift themselves out of poverty with these posts for your wall, or even take a picture of your pedometer at the end of each day so you can show your friends how hard you’re working:

Make sure you tell all of your followers how many steps you reach each day so they can follow your journey.

Blog

Are you an active blogger? If so, blog about your own personal Walk In Her Shoes journey during the week of the challenge.

If you’ve not yet got your blog on, then your very own Walk In Her Shoes online fundraising page is the perfect opportunity to give it a shot. Your online fundraising page has a blog that you can use to update your supporters on your journey, so they’re behind you every step of the way.

3. Your local community

If you would like to use CARE Australia’s name or logo on any of your own promotional materials, please seek approval and provide us with a final draft by emailing info@care.org.au.

Media

Contact your local newspaper, radio station or TV station and send them a photo and media release to help get even greater support for your walk. Feel free to use the template below as a starting point for your media release. Generally they should be kept to less than one page. We do ask that you do not represent yourself as a CARE Australia spokesperson though.

Please email us a copy of any media coverage you get so we can share it with other walkers!

Other handy information:

Collecting cash donations

Go to your fundraising page and click 'Donate now'. Fill in the details of your donor (use your email address) and then select 'Cash, Cheque or BPAY' under Payment Method. If you're in a team, make sure you select your name from the drop down list.

Confirm the details on the next screen then click 'Pledge'. The system will then email you a Pledge form, which you can use to deposit the cash via BPAY, mail, phone or online. The barcode on the form will make sure it goes towards your fundraising tally!

Tax receipts for your donors

Online fundraising is the fastest and most cost-effective way to collect donations. Donations made online will automatically generate an electronic receipt that will be emailed directly to the donor.
